Event Details

World Green Building Week is coming soon, running from Monday 17th September 2012 to Friday 21st September 2012.

To celebrate this fantastic event in Western Australia, Pier Street Collective, including architecture.collectiveeToolGreen GurusODS Engineering and Cundall, will be holding a series of FREE lunchtime seminars throughout the week.

Topics include:

Monday 17th September 2012: Key design considerations for Sustainable Architecture – Sid Thoo (architecture.collective) *1 CPD Point Available*

There will be two seminars - 12.30pm and 4pm (WST)

We will look at how decisions made in the early stages of the architectural design process can have a massive impact on "green" buildings, and that performance-based design must be an integral consideration to achieve more sustainable building outcomes.

Tuesday 18th September 2012: Valuing Green: Where is the market at? – Chiara Pacifici (Green Gurus)

We will discuss valuing and marketing residential green buildings in Australia, review Australian and international research identifying the value of green ratings and sustainability features in housing and identify what leading innovative real estate agencies and property developers are doing locally.

Wednesday 19th September 2012: Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ), Your Staff and Your Health: The hidden benefits of Green Design – Karla Fox-Reynolds (Cundall)
*1 CPD Point Available*

We will look at how the indoor environment quality of a building can affect your health. We will discuss how green buildings often get this right and the ideas for changes that you can make during the design and construction process through to every day use to improve your environment and your health.

Thursday 20th September 2012: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): A revolution in Green Design – Alex Bruce (eTool) *1 CPD Point Available*

There will be two seminars - 12.30pm and 4pm (WST)

When it comes to environmentally and economically sustainable design, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is the next big thing...or is it already here? In this seminar, we will discuss what is LCA, why is it so powerful in improving the way we design and how can you harness it for your next project?

Friday 21st September 2012: Urban Comfort Mapping and Technical Modelling for Sustainable Design – Mark Pitman (ODS | Cundall) *1 CPD Point Available*

We will cover some of the latest innovations of technical modelling as it relates to ESD, building and urban design. From “virtual wind tunnels” and mapping comfort across large urban environment,s to the use of evolutionary algorithms in design optimisation, this talk will give an overview of the current state-of-the-art and a glimpse into the future use of computing and mathematical algorithms in the design process.

Unless otherwise noted, all seminars commence at 12:30pm (WAST) and run for about 45 minutes – some light refreshments will be available, but please bring your own lunch.

Places are strictly limited, so please RSVP to confirm your attendance.
For those outside Perth, we will also be streaming our seminars live via Youtube and Google Hangouts – where we have 9 webinar places for interactive participation.

If you would like to participate online in the Google Hangouts webinar, please RSVP, +1 our Pier Street Collective Google+ Page (http://bit.ly/PhDsbe), be on your computer at the equivalent to WAST time and we will ask you to ‘join’ the hangout and start the webinar.

During the webinar, you will be able to see and hear the seminar live, write comments, ask questions and have access to the presentation document to follow more easily.

There are only 9 places in each Google Hangout webinar, so if the one(s) you're interested in are full, you can watch the live broadcast on our Youtube channels, write comments and ask questions during or after the event.
